Question by Andrea A: what do I need to bring with me to get my drivers license in san antonio texas?
I currently have the drivers permit photo ID they gave me. I also can bring my social security card and regular state photo ID. I suppose the big question is, Do I have to bring proof of insurance with me? I dont currently have any auto insurance. I plan on getting my own insurance or getting added onto my fathers policy. My father’s policy currently is a named driver policy which means only he can drive the car and be covered, i.e. no “permissive driver coverage”.
So thats the real question, Do you have to provide proof of insurance to get the test?
Also how much does it cost?

YES, you have to show proof of insurance. If you’re not on your dad’s policy or you don’t have your own policy, then you aren’t insured to drive his car. If you get in an accident while driving his car, insurance won’t pay. The fee schedule is at the first site below.

THE DRIVING SKILLS TEST is given only after all other tests have been passed and evidence of automobile liability insurance covering the vehicle is presented or the vehicle is exempt under the Act. The type of vehicle that must be used for the driving test depends on the class of license applied for. A $ 10.00 examination fee is required when changing from a lower to a higher class license or when adding each additional endorsement on a Commercial Driver License (CDL) or removing restri ctions from a license. When adding a Class M to an existing license the fee is $ 15.00.
