Question by Big: V8's and v6's...why the fuss? ok starting off im looking for a another car ive always loved the firebirds...after many arguements with friends. a v6 is like a slap in the face to be considered a sports car...now due to my budget and the fact that i dont want to be paying off a car for 5 years...a 16k dollar car isnt worth it to me even if it does have a v8. my arguement is if it fits ur budget and ur aware of what ur getting, whats it matter?...i mean if i go out to a track and try and race it, then yes i deserve to get laughed and spit at, but if im not then why talk so badly about a car thats still considered a sports car regardless of what ur personal opinion is? for me i like the style of the firebird and thats what caught me...i dont know crap about cars but i underr stand the speed diff. everyone picks sides in my opinion about this...its the same arguement if its manual sports whether v8 or not vs auto with a v8....the fact that everyone else laughs at a v6 makes it less "manly" in a way....but 4 cyls....that have power to them get more respect.. anyways i jus had to get that out...i see the arguments but to me if im not bragin then y disrespect my ride or at least the ride that i can afford and find nice. their r those head strong ppl who dont see my side at all...ive got a friend like that, but dont get me wrong id love to have a v8 but im not putting myself in that kinda debt that i cant handle at this time...one of my co workers had an 8 dollar an hour job and bout a gto with 325 dollar insurance payments.....jus dont get it. y put urself in that tight of a spot?...thanks Best answer:

A Firebird is made to be fast, and when you're driving something that looks like straight up American muscle, only to find out its got a v6 people will not take you seriously. You can EASILY get a Trans Am for 8K, v8 LS1.

Most people who buy a pony car (firebirds are not and never have been muscle cars, or sports cars), buy them either because th& #101;y like the look of the car but want cheaper insurance and better fuel economy, and the rest of them buy the car for speed. In that aspect, someone who owns a V8 car tends to have the mindset that someone who tries to race a V6 model is a poseur. You can get a V8 car for not much more than a V6 car, honestly. And in many cases, the V8s are actually more reliable tha 0; the V6s, especially in the instance of the mustang, but the GM 3.8 isn't exactly great either. Ultimately, you're the one driving it, and if that's what you want, don't worry what other people think, but expect some extra attention if you do things like put a louder exhaust or big shiny wheels on your V6 car.

If you're on a budget, you don't need to be racing your only means of transportation. You don't ever deserve to be spit at. Other than that, I would just say there is a market for everything. You know what is right for you. You are definitely on the right track by looking at your priorities. Maybe you can't afford a 2010 SS today. You like sporty cars, shop within your budget. Anyone jacks with you, tell them you're saving up.
